Spring 2026 brought big changes at Oak Road, our conservation area retrofit in North Leeds, both on the roof and inside the house.
May: roof, dormer and basement
The new roof was nearly ready for tiling and the dormer was up. Conservation solar panels were in place, ready to sit neatly within the new slate. Inside, the roof was insulated, the basement had been fully dug out and a new concrete floor poured, and new subfloors and insulation were going down on the upper floors.

June: details that matter
The main roof is now finished, with the new conservation rooflights sitting flush with the slate. It is a small detail, but it makes a big difference to how the house looks from the street.
Inside, the team has been laying hemp insulation in the floors. Hemp is a sustainable, breathable material that suits older buildings well. Much of the ductwork for the new mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system is also in.
A joined-up sustainable approach
Insulation, airtightness, ventilation, renewable energy and good windows only work properly when they are planned together. That is the approach we take on every EnerPHit-style retrofit, and it is great to see it coming together here.
